Planning Your LASIK Procedure

Please download and fill out our New Patient Information Form
and our Medical History Form

Step 1 The Consultation

Call our office and make an appointment for a complementary LASIK consultation.  The consultation is 30 minutes with a technician.  If you wear contacts we request that you wear your glasses for the appointment or change into your glasses upon arriving.

The consultation is an opportunity for us to gather information about your eyes to see if you are a lasik candidate.  It is also an opportunity for you find out more about NorthEast Laser Center and Dr. Frangie.

Step 2 The Preoperative Exam
Your preoperative exam with the doctor is approximately 1 ½ hours.  During this time a variety of tests are performed.  We gather additional information on your eyes by utilizing an OrbScan and Wavefront System.  We will also dilate your eyes so be aware that you may need sunglasses after your exam.  We can provide you with sun protection if you forget.

Contact lens wearers should be aware that soft contact must be out a minimum of seven days, toric lenses three weeks, and hard lenses four weeks prior to this exam

Sometimes a person will appear to be a candidate at the consultation but we may find information during the pre-operative exam in which we may suggest that you not have a procedure.  We want our patients to have the best possible results and Dr. Frangie bases his decisions on his vast experience.

Step 3 The LASIK procedure.
Just about any Wednesday you can schedule your procedure.  Plan to be at our office between 1 1/2 to 2 hours.  Upon arrival we collect your consent form, and payment.  We then administer valium so that the patient is relaxed.  A series of eye drops are given to numb the eyes.

The patient is then moved to the operating room where the procedure traditionally takes about 20 minutes.  We request you close your eyes and rest in a post-operative room.  Dr. Frangie examines you one last time and then you go home.  You must have someone drive you, please rest at home.

Step 4 Post-LASIK Operative Care
Day 2

We see you the next morning for a post operative exam.  This is to ensure that you are seeing and feeling well.  Many of or patients return to work the next day.

Post-operative exams that traditionally follow are set for 1-2 weeks, 1 month and 3 months.  After your final visit with us, we ask that you continue to receive regular routine eye care from your primary eye doctor.  Certainly, we are always available at any time following your treatment to answer any questions or concerns.
